Your Impact

Khadi fabric is handspun yarn woven by hand using a pit loom or above-ground loom. With less twist and softer weave, this fabric has more air cavities, making it airy and more porous.

Although an integral part of the Indian heritage, the cotton handloom industry is at a crisis today with competition from the powerloom sector resulting in a mass exodus of traditional weavers. Magan Khadi provides training and skills development, nurtures local handicrafts and artisan communities, and spreads the reach of khadi, from farm to fabric. It employs 200 artisans, who do end-to-end khadi spinning and weaving at the centre. The cotton is directly bought from the farmers and the seeds are recycled. From growing the raw cotton to spinning the yarn and weaving the fabric, the whole community is involved; every thread resonates with the lifeblood of many people. All the fabric is dyed using only natural dyes extracted from seeds, roots, leaves, vegetables, fruit, flowers, herbs and bark such as Manjishta(Madder), Catchu(Katha in paan), Harda, Coral Vine(Antigonan Leptopus), Ventilago Madraspatna(Pitti), and Indigo.

This is fashion that's as sustainable as it can get - made with almost zero pollution and wastage! Through this purchase, you are not only choosing the best for you, but also helping to revive this traditional Indian art and helping the artisans in earning a sustainable livelihood.

Why We Like It

Unlike mass-produced clothes, this beautiful piece of clothing is carefully handmade by artisans, making it as unique as you. Because it uses almost no machines and relies on natural dyes and organic raw materials, this product is also environment-friendly. We also love how this product contributes toward providing a livelihood to the traditional weavers and help revive a dying craft.
